Let's Play! at Anderton Boat Lift

To support the national effort to keep people safe, we’re following the Government’s advice on coronavirus. We are closing the Anderton Boat Lift visitor centre and play area from Friday 20 March. For more information, read our latest coronavirus update.

New for 2017 is our fantastically fun Let's Play! playground.

The play area is designed to look a bit like the lift itself. There's a bridge, control house and mooring area and it cleverly uses blue surfacing so children can pretend they're on the water.

It's also fully accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

The Let's Play! at Anderton Boat Lift project funding

While the Canal & River Trust owns and cares for the Anderton Boat Lift, as a charity, we still need support for key projects. So our exciting new playground was made possible thanks to a £20,000 grant from the LEADER programme; a unique source of funding for rural areas across Cheshire, Warrington and the Dunham Massey area, managed by Cheshire West and Chester Council. LEADER takes a community-led approach to delivering European funding from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.

The trail starts here

Anderton Nature Park and woodlandThe Let’s Play! area is also the starting point for our new nature and discovery trail. Follow the walking trail into our neighbouring Anderton Nature Park.

Open every weekend from now on!

The best news of all is that thanks to our amazing new playground, our visitor centre will now be open every weekend throughout the year.
