The charity making life better by water

Man, child and dog walking on Leeds & Liverpool Canal in snowy weather

Walking

Fancy a walk? We have 2,000 miles of level towpaths along some of the best waterside scenery England and Wales have to offer. Take a walk today and feel better by water.

Canal and river walks near me

We work hard to ensure our towpaths are open and accessible so you can enjoy a waterside ramble whatever the time of year. Aside from lock flights, your path is level and there's little chance of getting lost. The unfolding scenery of a canal-side stroll also takes some beating. Where else could you find such a mix of wildlife, architecture, countryside and of course, the thing that brings it all to life, narrowboats?

If you're looking for great canal or river walks, our routes map will point you in the right drection. Alternatively, just head for your local towpath and follow your nose.

Remember, the surface of our towpaths can vary depending on weather conditions and the time of year. Before you go, please ensure you have the appropriate footwear and any other equipment you may need.
