The Canal & River Trust looks after most of the canals and rivers in England and Wales. Explorers has been designed to help you discover them while having lots of FUN!
Our Education Volunteers lead inspiring visits to key waterside destinations across the UK, as well as in-school visits. 21 of our sites have been awarded the Quality Badge for Learning Outside the Classroom. All activities are linked to the national curriculum and are highly regarded by teachers.
To accompany our activities, we have a range of free learning resources available to download from our website. These include lesson plans, activity sheets and topic packs, enabling you to teach children about canals and rivers in the classroom. They cover many different areas of the curriculum, from Science to Art.
Our exciting new competition, Corridor for Nature, is now live! Along with People's Postcode Lottery, we're calling upon creative minds to design a canal habitat for their school grounds. The winning school will have their design recreated into a habitat learning area by a specialist architect. The competition is fully supported by cross-curricular learning resources, flexible on timing and suitable for multiple year groups. Sign up for your FREE competiton pack below.
There are FREE lesson plans, competitions, activities and resources to use in the classroom and on visits to your local canal or river.
