The charity making life better by water

Volunteers litter picking along the towpath in Smethwick

Canals need many hands to look after them. By volunteering with us, you can really make a difference.

Whether you can spare a few minutes or a couple of days, from lock keeping to wildlife conservation, we have an incredible variety of volunteer roles.

This year, we will be hosting a number of welcome events across our regions, where you'll be able to discover more about volunteering with us, get the chance to ask us any questions and meet other volunteers.

Making a difference

Volunteering is a great way to get active and meet new people, all against the backdrop of our country's stunning canals and rivers.

With your help we can help wildlife thrive, and people can find health, happiness and wellbeing on their doorstep.

Meet our volunteers and find out why they've chosen to get involved and how it's made a difference to their lives.

We love hearing from our volunteers. Want to be featured on this page? Post your snaps and stories on Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #volunteerbywater
