Apprenticeships
As a Canal & River Trust apprentice, you will take part in practical, on-the-job training whilst studying for a formal qualification.
What to expect
Our apprenticeship programmes help the Trust to pass on traditional skills that are necessary to carry out our important work on and around the canal network. Apprenticeships are open to anyone over the age of 16 (not in full-time education) and allow you to earn a wage while you work and study.
A Canal & River Trust apprentice will:
- Work alongside our experienced staff
- Learn job-specific skills
- Get hands-on and involved
- Earn a wage and get holiday pay
- Be given formal study time (equivalent to one day a week)
There are a wide range of STEM apprenticeship roles to choose from at the Canal & River Trust including:
- Construction
- Ecology
- Masonry
- Joinery
- Carpentry
- Engineering

How to apply
When available, our apprenticeships will be advertised on our vacancies page. In the meantime, why not get involved with our work through our volunteering opportunities where you'll be able to learn more about what we do and gain valuable work experience.
