Easter is one of our favourite times of year on the canals. Spring is in full bloom, school is out and the longer days mean you can enjoy longer jaunts on the towpath.
Whether you’re planning a healthy walk, a cycle ride or a trip to one of our fabulous places to visit, your local canal is a one-stop-shop for free family fun this Easter. Even if you’re stuck in the office, taking to the towpath for a breath of fresh air will bring you closer to nature and leave you feeling refreshed.
Here at the Trust, we believe that pleasure can be found in small things, and the warmer weather certainly aids a more mindful appreciation of your surroundings. Noticing the canal plants opening, the hedgerows slowly turning green and the wildlife waking up can help you forget your troubles, just for a little while.
There are many reasons why walking along a canal is so much nicer than walking anywhere else. Your path is usually level, there’s no chance of getting lost and you’re guaranteed relaxing views of the water. Not forgetting the colourful narrowboats and quacking ducks.
Our research shows that spending time by water makes you happier and healthier, so taking a walk by the canal is not just a nice way to spend a Sunday, it’s an investment in your personal wellbeing. We look after and bring to life 2,000 miles of waterways because we believe that life is better by water.
Our museums and attractions are hosting some fantastic events for all the family over the Easter holidays.
Whether you’re planning a day of adventure and learning or much-needed rest and relaxation, we promise that a happier and healthier day is closer than you think.
