Are you in Team Kingfisher for our banknotes?

The common kingfisher, an iconic sight along our canals and rivers, is in the running to appear on UK banknotes. Cast your vote before 3 July.

After a public consultation last year, the Bank of England announced in March 2026 that nature will be the theme for our next series of banknote designs. A shortlist of native animals has been produced, and now it’s up to us, the public, to vote for the central image on the £5, £10, £20 and £50 notes.

We’re Team Kingfisher

For many of us, our first glimpse of a kingfisher may well have been by our local canal or river.

At the Trust, we see kingfishers as more than a beautiful bird. They’re a sign of healthy, thriving waterways. Something we work every day to protect. We think they’d be right at home on our banknotes too.

Vote for the kingfisher before Friday 3 July.
