Brecon Canal 225th anniversary talks

Heritage consultant David Viner and Glandŵr Cymru's David Morgan are providing talks about the 225 year history and heritage of the Brecknock & Abergavenny Canal.

The talks are a part of the 225th anniversary celebrations of the canal that are taking place across 2025 and 2026 to celebrate its completion when the first cargo of coal reached Brecon Basin on Christmas Eve 1800.

Llangynidir Historical Society and Crickhowell Historical Society have both enjoyed the opportunity to find out more about the rich history of the canal and the role it has played for over two centuries, and how today it still is making a significant contribution to the local area as a major visitor destination at the centre of canal side communities, and as a vital habitat to a range of wildlife.

If you are interested in a talk for your organisation during the 2025-26 anniversary year, then please email [email protected] to find out more.
