We're delighted to partner with the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) UK – the UK’S leading provider of water safety and drowning prevention education – who together with the Trust – will help to promote important safety messages to everyone who visits our waterways.
RLSS UK’s Don’t Drink and Drown campaign aims to highlight the dangers associated with walking next to water when under the influence of alcohol and encourage people to find a different route home. With 2,000 miles of waterways and hundreds of lovely drinking spots along them, it’s important our visitors know how to enjoy the waterways safely.
Runners and Walkers are the group most likely to accidentally end up in the water due to slipping on wet or icy surfaces. With many people enjoying wintery dog walks, new year resolution runs and city cycles, we want to remind people to take precautions to stay safe.
Di Steer, CEO at RLSS UK, says:
"We are delighted to have the support of the Canal & River Trust and we’re excited to develop the relationship through both our Don’t Drink and Drown and our Runners and Walkers campaigns. Both our organisations share an inherent desire to ensure people enjoy our wonderful waterways in a safe manner. Water should be fun and enjoyable and we hope that this partnership will help to stop people taking risks that could end in tragedy."
