The improvements will see 2km of towpath, from Canal Bank to Moor Lane, resurfaced and made wider, making it more appealing for walkers, cyclists and those with buggies or wheelchairs. We'll be improving key access points as well as installing better signage to help visitors find their way around and interpretation panels, enabling people to find out more about their local canal and its heritage. The project will also include a new visitor mooring, encouraging boaters to stop off and explore the town.
Once complete, local people will be able to enjoy a green, traffic-free route to work, school or local shops, taking in the town's heritage and getting closer to nature as part of their daily routine.
The works, which have been made possible by the Loughborough Town Deal, started in early January. The towpath will be closed in places during the works, but diversions will be in place and signed locally.
Once complete we'll be asking everyone to enjoy the new towpath considerately and to follow our Towpath Code remembering to Share The Space.
