Most boats our network have diesel engines and use solid-fuel stoves for heating. While boating contributes little to carbon and air polluting emissions, there’s still room to improve.

Most boats on inland waterways have diesel engines and use solid-fuel stoves for heating. The Trust is partnering in pilot schemes to install electricity charging points at inner city moorings, which encourages the use of electricity for heating as well as propulsion.
We offer a boat licence discount to electric boats and some boats are now converting to solar power and batteries.
