Board papers
We keep a copy of all of our board papers in our dedicated meetings calendar. They are numbered in ascending chronological order and can be found alongside the minutes of each meeting.
Certain Board papers may be omitted where the whole content is confidential material or the document has already been, or is due to be, published (e.g. drafts of public documents). Furthermore, sometimes the numbering of papers is not wholly sequential due to late agenda changes leaving certain ‘Canal & River Trust' numbers unused.
The publication of these papers are undertaken voluntarily by the Trust. Only information relating to exercise of the statutory functions transferred from British Waterways to the Canal & River Trust (a limited aspect of the Trusts activities) is subject to the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Nevertheless the Trust seeks to make available a wide range of information to the public.
Exceptions might include commercially confidential information; information the disclosure of which would inhibit free and frank provision of advice and the free and frank exchange of views for the purposes of deliberation, or information the disclosure of which would materially prejudice the effective conduct of the Trust's activities.
Thus certain Board papers may edited ‘(redacted') or be wholly omitted where all the content is confidential material or the document has already been, or is due to be, published (e.g. drafts of public documents). Furthermore, sometimes the numbering of papers is not wholly sequential due to late agenda changes leaving certain ‘Canal & River Trust' numbers unused.
Minutes of meetings of the Board of Trustees
The Trust was created and registered at Companies House in early October 2011 therefore the meetings before that date were meetings of the 'Trustees Designate'. It is the intention of the Trustees to publish the minutes of their meeting once they have been approved by all Trustees – usually happens at the following meeting. Therefore publications will usually be within a few working days of that following meeting.
Certain confidential matters are excluded from the published version of the minutes and these are indicated by red square brackets. Such exclusions normally relate to commercial or similar matters (e.g. matters under negotiation) where disclosure would be damaging to the interests the Trust or where obligations of confidentiality are owed to a third party. They are kept to a necessary minimum.
The publication of these minutes are undertaken voluntarily by the Trust. The statutory powers and duties to operate the waterways of British Waterways in England & Wales were transferred from British Waterways to the Canal & River Trust, any information relating to such activity held by the Trust is subject to the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
You can find Trustees' minutes in our meetings calendar.
