The charity making life better by water

Explorers' education volunteer

You’ll be both supporting and leading activities with young people, leading visits on our waterways or delivering curriculum-based workshops within schools.

  • What you'll be doing

You’ll be both supporting and leading activities with young people.

These may be indoors at either one of our venues or the schools / uniformed groups venue or outside on the towpath, sharing one of our many wonderful locations.

  • The skills you need
    • Previous experience of hands-on learning with children, or a strong desire to gain experience in this area
    • The ability to enthuse young people through talks and activities
    • Able to work within a team as well as deliver activities to an agreed format unsupervised
    • Able and willing to lead groups in an outdoor environment
  • What's in it for you?

    The opportunity to:

    • learn more about waterway heritage and wildlife
    • use your skills and learn new ones
    • be in an attractive environment
    • meet new people and of course, inspire children!

Most volunteers find opening the eyes of young people to the world around them is the most rewarding part of the role.

We give you full training and provide resources for leading groups of children, with a number of training days and team meetings.

You will have the support of a learning & skills co-ordinator as well as the other volunteers in your team.
