“I first became interested in canals when I studied the history of technology as part of my degree. Now, I love walking by them and reconnecting with nature.
My husband and I don’t have a boat, but we love going on them. You just relax as world goes by, and you've got nature all around you. When you’re going along at four miles an hour on a canal, it just puts everything in perspective.
I do worry about the future, though. They're all old structures. It's amazing that they’ve survived as long as they have. That's why I want to give something back, because I know the work that the Canal & River Trust does, costs so much to undertake.
The government is putting less money into the charity, so what's going to happen in the future? Where will my canals go? I'm really determined to do my little bit to look after canals because we get so much pleasure out of them.”
