Accreditation and awards

We offer a wide range of award and accreditation options to help young people get the most out of working or volunteering with us, whether it’s a certificate of attendance, an informal award or a nationally recognised qualification.

Here are a few different options that are widely available across England and Wales. It’s also worth having a chat with your regional team to see what else may be on offer in your local area.

John Muir Award

The John Muir Award is an environmental award scheme. It supports people to connect with, enjoy and care for the natural environment, with a focus on wild places.

It was launched in 1997 by the John Muir Trust, which was formed in 1983 to safeguard and conserve wild places in the UK. The John Muir Trust’s vision is of a world where wild places are protected, enhanced and valued by and for everyone.

We're developing a national framework to deliver the John Muir Award, at all levels, to a number of youth groups we work with.

Duke of Edinburgh Award

We are a licensed Volunteering Approved Activity Provider for the Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE), which means we are licensed by them to provide volunteering opportunities for participants nationally.

Please be aware that for this scheme we have registered to take young people aged 16 years and over. We do not generally encourage under 16s to volunteer with us, unless this is through a recognised youth group or partnership, or through a youth project led by us, manned by checked and trained professionals.

ASDAN

ASDAN is a pioneering curriculum development organisation and awarding body, offering programmes and qualifications that explicitly grow skills for learning, skills for employment and skills for life. We're in the process of becoming a ASDAN centre so that we can offer this accreditation nationally.
