No trip to our marvellous museum would be complete without climbing aboard a narrowboat to explore just some of the Shropshire Union Canal.
Unfortunately we are unable to run any boat trips at the moment. Please keep an eye on this page or follow us on social media for future updates We apologise for any inconvenience.
Where once horses pulled buttys and barges on the Shropshire Union Canal, you can now explore by taking a canalside walk.
Look out for...
The grooves on the old Victorian Bridge worn down by the ropes of horses as they pulled narrow boats to and from Ellesmere Port docks.
Horses played an important role in the history of the waterways and for over 200 years canal boats were pulled by horses, and for much longer, the country depended on them for work.
From time to time we invite horsedrawn boats to travel along the canal to take you even further back in time...
