There’s so much to explore at the National Waterways Museum, from its stunning Canalside grounds and Grade II listed buildings to working locks, historic docks and engaging exhibits.

With world-class attractions and a year-round events calendar (featuring everything from live music and beer festivals to historic boat rallies), the museum is always full of life, and our fantastic team of volunteers play a vital role in making every visit special.

Volunteer roles

Roles can include:

  • guided tours, gallery guides and boat trips 
  • event support and hospitality 
  • historic interpretation at our Porters Row cottages 
  • lock demonstrations  
  • heritage gardening, grounds and site maintenance 
  • Power Hall and boat care

No previous experience needed. Full training and support will be provided.
