No trip to our marvellous museum would be complete without climbing aboard to explore the Shropshire Union Canal.

Boat trips will be running every day between Saturday 15 February and Sunday 23 February at 11am, 12 noon, 1:30pm and 2:30pm.
Each boat trip lasts approximately half an hour and includes a live commentary.
Price is £5 per person. You will also require a valid museum admission ticket which can be purchased on the day.
Boat trip tickets can be booked on the day at the museum reception (booking is essential). Unfortunately, we cannot take reservations over the phone.
Wheelchair accessible trips are available on weekdays only, this is due to the availability of the wheelchair accessible vessel.

Where once horses pulled buttys and barges on the Shropshire Union Canal, you can now explore by taking a canalside walk.
Look out for...
The grooves on the old Victorian Bridge worn down by the ropes of horses as they pulled narrow boats to and from Ellesmere Port docks.
Horses played an important role in the history of the waterways and for over 200 years canal boats were pulled by horses, and for much longer, the country depended on them for work.
From time to time we invite horsedrawn boats to travel along the canal to take you even further back in time...
