Every year Santa comes to visit our canals and rivers to spread a little Christmas health and happiness. Here’s where to find him this festive season on a local canal near you.
If you’re quick, you’ll see Santa’s magic a work as he’ll be in two places at once on Saturday 7 December. Santa Splashes are in fact a fun opportunity to get outside as our friends at the Desmond Family Canoe Trail invite you to take to the water in both Leeds and Liverpool – dressed appropriately of course.
Each weekend leading up to Christmas Eve, come along to our National Waterways Museum and meet Santa. He’ll share a story in his grotto and give the little ones an early Christmas present. We’ve even got a gift for the not so little ones in the shape of our Christmas treats in Santa’s special café.
As you may know, we work with many voluntary partners and canal societies to care for our 200-year old waterways. Our friends at the Chesterfield Canal Trust recently invited Santa to go on a cruise on this partially restored route. You’ll find him on one of their four trip boats spread over 15 days. It’s the perfect way to connect with local canal history.
Santa is also stretching his storytelling muscles at our museum in Gloucester Docks. In recent years Gloucester has seen a busy, bustling new shopping experience develop around its docks so why not pop in, relax and rejuvenate with a Christmas-themed treat in our café too?
Santa gets his sea legs as our ever-popular Santa cruises are back at Anderton Boat lift. Every weekend there are loads of opportunities for a festive cruise on the River Weaver with storytelling, songs and a few surprises.
