The charity making life better by water

Heritage Open Days 2023

Get a behind-the-scenes tour of fascinating canal heritage with our series of open days this September.

Aerial view of Anderton Boat Lift

Tour the magnificent 'Cathedral of the Canals', explore a renovated Victorian workshop and step back in time to watch traditional craftsmen at work in a canalside blacksmith's forge. These are just some of the experiences our charity is making available this September as part of England's largest festival of history and culture.

Heritage Open Days gives everyone the chance to visit historical venues that are not usually open to the public. If you love canal history and would like to find out more about the 250-year-old waterway network in our care, this is an opportunity not to be missed.
