Explore the Standedge Tunnel on a free 30-minute boat trip! Discover history on a unique journey into this iconic landmark.

Discover the hidden wonders of the Standedge Tunnel at our Heritage Open Day on 12th September 2024. Located in Marsden, Huddersfield, this 30-minute boat trip offers a rare chance to explore Britain’s longest, deepest, and highest canal tunnel. Built between 1794 and 1811, the Standedge Tunnel is an engineering marvel, stretching 3.25 miles through the Pennines. Our Standedge Class vessels will take you deep into the heart of this historic landmark, where you’ll learn about its fascinating construction and history. With wheelchair access and multiple trip times available, this event is open to all.

The boat departs from outside the Standedge Tunnel Cafe, and spaces are limited, so pre-booking is highly recommended. Enjoy the serene surroundings, and after your trip, relax at the on-site café. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to delve into the rich heritage of the Standedge Tunnel—an iconic piece of Britain’s industrial past.

Our car park is located a 15-minute walk away over near Marsden Railway Station, Postcode; HD7 6DH. There is disabled parking at Standedge Tunnel Visitor Centre.
