Boat trips and exhibition centre

Plan a trip to Standedge Tunnel on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal.

Standedge Visitor Centre Standedge Visitor Centre

Standedge Exhibition Centre

The ground floor of the warehouse building houses the Standedge Exhibition Centre. There is a film telling the story of the building of the tunnel and its restoration. The ground floor also houses some of the national collection on display. These items are relevant to the building of the tunnel, its operation in the 1800s and also to its restoration from the 1970s onwards.

Boat trips (30 minutes)

Families can enjoy a daily short trip into the 3.25 mile tunnel. One of our entertaining guides will thrill you with tales of the folk who designed, built and worked in the tunnel. Pre-booking is required for groups of over 12 people for boat trips, lunch orders and buffets. Special prices are also available. The short boat trip can take one wheelchairs on each trip and is accessible via a wheelchair lift if required.
