Plan a trip to Standedge Tunnel on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal.
The ground floor of the warehouse building houses the Standedge Exhibition Centre. There is a film telling the story of the building of the tunnel and its restoration. The ground floor also houses some of the national collection on display. These items are relevant to the building of the tunnel, its operation in the 1800s and also to its restoration from the 1970s onwards.
Families can enjoy a daily short trip into the 3.25 mile tunnel. One of our entertaining guides will thrill you with tales of the folk who designed, built and worked in the tunnel. Pre-booking is required for groups of over 10 people for boat trips, lunch orders and buffets. Special prices are also available. The short boat trip can take one wheelchairs on each trip and is accessible via a wheelchair lift if required.
|Family (2 adults, 2 children)||£15.00|
Please note: only assistant dogs are permitted on the boat.
Take a trip all the way through and explore deep into Standedge Tunnel. The journey will last two hours and provide a in-depth insight into the history of the 200 year old tunnel. There are two schedueled trips every other Saturday, one leaving Marsden portal at 10am and the other leaving Diggle portal at 1pm.
Tickets are priced at £15 per person and there is a taxi service provided at no extra cost, which for the morning trip will bring you back to the visitor centre in Marsden and for the afternoon trip will take you from the visitor centre to the Diggle portal. Please let us know if you will be requiring this service when making your booking.
Remember to wrap up warm as the tunnel remains a cool temperature all year round.
