We love and care for your canals and rivers, because everyone deserves a place to escape.

How to find us

You can reach us by boat, car, bus, rail, foot and even water taxi! But no matter how you reach us, reach us if you can...

Waters Road (off Reddisher Road)

By boat

We’re on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. There’s moorings at both the Marsden end, at the Visitor Centre Lock 42 and the Diggle end.

By car

Find us off the A62 in Marsden, between Huddersfield and Oldham.    Free parking: Park at Marsden Train Station (HD7 6DH), from there take the 15 minute pushchair friendly walk along the towpath to join us. But you’ll find disabled parking at our visitor centre.

By train

From Marsden train station, we’re just a 15 minute walk along the beautifully restored Huddersfield Narrow Canal towpath. See the National Rail Enquiries website for details.

By Bus

The number 184 Oldham - Huddersfield bus service drops off and picks up on the A62 in Marsden. From there follow the main road through the village to Marsden Railway Station and the canal towpath.

Water Taxi

Huddersfield Canal Society’s volunteers run a 12 seater water taxi service between Marsden Railway Station and Standedge at weekends and bank holidays.

Single fares:

  • adults – £1.00
  • child – 50p
  • society members – free (please show your membership card)

Group visits need to pre-book. Call: 01457 871800 for details. We don’t run this service so do check with them first.

Coach drop off is only available at Marsden Train Station. But there's more parking at lock 42 near the train station. (Sorry, our tunnel’s historic nature means we’re not allowed coaches on site but at least you get to enjoy the towpath walk.)

By foot or bike

By Boat- Mooring at Standedge Visitor Centre, after 5pm the night before your travel through the tunnel, Moorings at Lock 42 and Diggle Portal.

Follow the main road through the village to Marsden Train Station and join the towpath.

Let us know if you travelled Green! Because walkers, cyclists and public transport users get a 5% discount on a hot drink!
