Encounters with the Severn

Photography Exhibition | 5 February - 11 April 2026

Throughout February and beyond, visitors can explore Encounters with the Severn, a photographic exhibition reflecting the changing life and landscapes of Britain’s longest river.

Created by Cheltenham Camera Club, one of England’s oldest photographic societies, the exhibition follows the River Severn along its 220-mile journey - from its source near Llanidloes to the point where it meets the waters between the Avon and the Usk.

The images capture moments of industry, movement and quiet reflection, offering a snapshot of the river and its communities in the early twenty-first century, where history and modern life sit closely together.

Family Model Boat Trail February - April

Alongside the photography exhibition, families can explore the River Severn through a model boat trail, launching during February half term.

Created by volunteer David, the trail features seven hand-crafted model boats (each around 40cm long), taking visitors on an imagined journey from Bridgnorth to Oldbury-on-Severn.

Pick up a trail sheet and search for the boats positioned around the museum, discovering the working craft of the River Severn as you explore the galleries.
