The canals of the West Midlands underwent a significant transformation between the 1960s and 1990s. Once vital to the region’s industry, these waterways were brought back to life for future generations. However, many of the people who played pivotal roles in this work, from engineers to volunteers have yet to have their voices heard.
Oral Histories Project
We are working to document stories and preserve experiences of restoration projects in the West Midlands.
What is the project?
We're calling on anyone who worked on or volunteered for the restoration of West Midlands canals from the 1960s to the 1990s, to come forward and share their stories and pictures. This project is supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
It's an opportunity for those who worked with local canal societies to ensure their contributions are recognised and shared with the community. We are seeking a wide range of stories and images from those who witnessed and participated in this transformation first-hand.
Got a story to tell?
To register your interest in the project please email us at [email protected] or attend the drop-in session on 13 March at Dudley Canal & Tunnel Trust
