Turnerwood is a picture-perfect hamlet on the Chesterfield Canal. There are magnificent locks and great walks through peaceful countryside with plenty of wildlife spotting opportunities. The canal through Turnerwood linked the River Trent to the centre of Chesterfield to transport coal from the coalfields of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire.
You can see a run of 22 ‘staircase’ locks - including double and triple locks - built almost 250 years ago by James Brindley, the famous canal engineer.
By car - on street parking is available on Marina Drive
