The charity making life better by water

View along the canal to The Bratch

The Bratch

The Bratch is the perfect spot for a family afternoon of exploring the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal's history and local wildlife. Take a walk along the towpath and admire the historic bridge and Bratch pumping station, or spot the locks, originally built as a staircase.

Like your wildlife? Follow the exciting bat trail, and be sure to keep an eye out for some unusual canal natural residents. If you look carefully you might even spot an otter.

Where does the water come from?

The water in Bratch Locks (numbers 23, 24 & 25) on the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal comes from various sources, all further north.

Ten miles away, water from Saredon Brook, via the Hatherton Canal, is augmented by water from the summit reservoirs - Calf Heath and Lower Gailey reservoirs.

Surface water discharges and feeders also contribute significantly to the water supply.
