The Grand Union Canal was once a busy industrial waterway connecting London with the Midlands. Connecting the River Brent to the rest of our canal system, today, Hanwell's flight of seven locks is a great place for a country walk - in the middle of London!
Look out for canal features such as the lock keeper's cottages and a ramp to help horses out of the canal when they fell in.
Places to eat:
There are plenty of grassy areas to have a picnic
Follow our information boards along this stretch of canal
Have you downloaded our free nature spotters' guide yet? It'll tell you more about the local swans, kingfishers, woodpeckers and even voles!
