Descriptions

Update 18 November 2025, 3:47pm

Following the recent heavy rainfall this weekend, water levels have improved sufficiently to allow us to re-open the Leicester Line from 9.30am on Wednesday 19th November.

We continue to monitor the situation and may need to take action to close again in the future, possibly at short notice, should further rainfall not be forthcoming and water levels decline again.

Please check our website (https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/notices) for any other restrictions to navigation in this area.

Update 4 November 2025, 4:29pm

Since publishing this notice the continued lack of prolonged rainfall means that our reservoirs are depleted and the feed from them needs to be turned off to allow them to replenish. This means that, from 4pm on Thursday 6th November, the navigation from Foxton Lock Flight through to Kilby Lock 30 will also be closed. More information can be found in a separate notice here.

The navigation remains closed between Kilby Lock 30 and Kings Lock 38. We will continue to monitor the situation and will update this notice by Thursday 11th December or sooner if the situation changes.

Original 27 October 2025, 7:32am

Unfortunately, due to reduced water feeds to this section, water levels remain unsafe to navigate between Kilby Lock 30 and Kings Lock 38 and this section of the navigation will remain closed.

As of Monday 27th October, the section of the Leicester Line between Watford Lock 1 and Kilby Lock 30 is open between 10am and 3pm. More information about the arrangements for travel in this area can be found here: From Watford Lock 1 to Kilby Lock 30 | Canal & River Trust

We will continue to monitor the situation and will update this notice by Friday 7th November or sooner if the situation changes.  For more information on the water resource position please click here to read our position statement.
