We love and care for your canals and rivers, because everyone deserves a place to escape.

For boaters

It's not just about our beautiful historic boats here at the National Waterways Museum, Ellesmere Port - you are more than welcome to bring your own boat here into the port to moor while you explore!

National Waterways Museum

When you arrive at the National Waterways Museum on the Shropshire Union Canal you'll find Canal & River Trust visitor moorings in the upper basin, near the museum entrance.

You can stay overnight

To stay overnight, please contact museum reception, which is open 10.00am to 5.00pm everyday April to October and 10.00am to 4.00pm November to March.

We'll usually direct you to the lower basin, through two sets of Whitby Locks, within the museum complex.

1 night per person on board (or the normal museum entrace price)

Subsequent nights £4.00

A boat arriving with two people and staying a week would therefore pay £19.50 for day one and £24 for the next six days moorings.

Dogs are welcome, but please keep them on a lead at all times and they sadly aren't allowed in the museum's galleries and cafe.

As well as secure moorings, you'll find fresh water and refuse facilities. Boaters can use the shop, cafe and toilets. We sell Canal & River Trust Unit cards for self service pump-outs. The nearest facility is Taylor's Boatyard in Chester (about 8 miles away on the Shropshire Union Canal).
