Where to fish

Did you know that we look after 2,000 miles of canals and rivers, plus eight commercial fisheries, and you can fish almost all of this? Find out what you need, when and where you can go fishing.

Check our checklist

  1. Do you have your rod licence?
  2. Do you know where you'd like to fish?
  3. Do you have a permit to fish? You'll either need one of our Waterway Wanderers permits if the stretch of water you want to fish is controlled by us, or you'll need a permit from the local angling club if they control the fishing rights. For more information, including a list of the stretches we control, visit our Waterway Wanderers page.
  4. Do you have enough tea and sandwiches to keep you going while you fish? (Unlike the above, not something you must have before you go fishing, but definitely recommended)
