The charity making life better by water

Number 3: Paul Turner

The Wolverhampton legend with a list of match wins longer than his hair.

Paul is consistently listed by the current crop on the Midlands canals match angling circuit as their most feared and respected opponent.

He had spells with both Starlets and Shakespeare before focusing primarily on individual success. An attacking angler, if Paul draws the right peg the rest of the field know they are competing for the runner up spot.

Paul once recorded 108 lbs of carp in a canal match, finishing over 100lbs clear of the second placed angler. It ranks as the most comprehensive canal match victory ever. Paul took the individual title on the 2017 canal pairs final on the Erewash Canal, finishing fourth pair overall with brother Neil.

Like his late father before him, Paul is active at club officer level and contributes to the sport by running open matches and a thriving West Midlands canal festival plus an annual heat of the canal pairs championships. If Angling Trust were to ever put a national on the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal again, it's Paul I am sure they would turn to for his expertise. He and brother Neil intend have recently become involved as coaches in the Let's Fish campaign with weekly events being held at Wombourne in the summer holidays. What an amazing opportunity that is for any young person to be coached by the very best.
