The charity making life better by water

Doorstep destinations

Our canals offer almost nine million people the opportunity to enjoy a walk, run, ride or day trip on their doorstep, cutting down on the need to drive to leisure destinations.

Our 2,000 miles of blue and green corridors provide doorstep destinations for millions of people, whether that's the free running track right outside their front door, or the chance for a family trip out, which doesn't involve the car.

Like Rob Oliver, the bronze medal-winning Paralympian who trained for his K1 200m kayak event on the canals of Birmingham during lockdown, people lucky enough to live close by our canals can make use of them in their daily lives, cutting carbon emissions by staying local.

Leave the car at home

Nearly nine million people live within 1km of our canals. That's nearly nine million people who don't have to drive to the gym or get in the car to enjoy some green space with the family. With increased funding, we could reach even more people and show them how it's possible to have micro adventures right on their doorstep.

With more support for our canals, our charity can make them blue, green and better, improving facilities for everyone.
