Leeds & Liverpool Canal Bicentenary: 1816 - 2016

EveryMileCounts: Let's celebrate!

Leeds & Liverpool Canal 1970s

2016 marks a special year in canal history – the 200th anniversary of the completion of Britain’s longest single man-made waterway, the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, on 22 October 1816.

To celebrate the Leeds & Liverpool bicentenary, the Trust have launched a major project EveryMileCounts to replace the missing or severely damaged mile markers lost from the canal bank over the last two centuries.

For a £200 donation, you can ensure that we are able to restore one of these precious mile markers, back to their former glory. Help us celebrate and leave a legacy today. (Please note that only donations of £200 only will buy you your very own mile marker. We cannot guarantee that you will be able to choose your exact location, but we will be in touch to find the mile marker closest to your preferred location).

For more information about the bicentenary celebrations or how to get involved, please contact our Leeds & Liverpool Bicentenary project manager Sarah Knight at the Trust’s Wigan office - sarah.knight@canalrivertrust.org.uk
