For boaters, the broad and fast-flowing River Trent is a clear contrast to the canals. However, the tidal reaches below Cromwell Lock are only recommended for experienced boaters. Always check tide times and lock opening times before you travel.
Tidal lock operation in the East Midlands
Cromwell lock core operating hours are: 7am to 9pm in summer (the earlier of Good Friday or 1 April to 30 September) and 8am to 4pm in winter.
To allow us to ensure lock keeper availability, and plan the best use of our limited resources, we would appreciate at least two working days' notice wherever possible.
