Discovering the Voices of the Montgomery Canal: An Interactive Audio Trail

Welcome to our interactive audio trail project, a heartwarming journey that connects the past and present of the Montgomery Canal through the voices of the community. This unique project harnesses the cherished memories of local residents, intertwining them with the youthful curiosity of local school children to create an immersive experience for everyone.

The Montgomery Canal holds a special place in the hearts of those who live nearby, rich with personal stories and historical significance. Recognising the importance of preserving these narratives, we embarked on a mission to capture these tales before they fade away.

We collaborated with local schools to educate children on the value of these community stories. The students learned essential interviewing skills, which they put into practice by engaging with community members, recording their vivid memories and personal connections to the canal.

This intergenerational exchange not only helped preserve local heritage but also fostered a greater appreciation of the canal's cultural and historical importance among the younger generation.

The culmination of this project is our engaging audio trail, where the children’s narrations bring to life the stories collected from the community. This audio journey can be enjoyed while walking along the serene paths of the Montgomery Canal, offering a deeper connection to the landscape and its stories. Alternatively, listeners can access the trail online, allowing the tales of the Montgomery Canal to be heard from anywhere in the world.

How to Experience the Trail:

  1. Along the Canal: Bring headphones. As you walk, play the recordings to experience the stories of the local area.

  2. From Home: Visit our webpage to stream the audio trail. Relax and imagine the gentle waters of the canal as you listen to the rich tapestry of voices from our community.

This audio trail is more than just a collection of stories; it's a celebration of our community's spirit and history. We hope it inspires both locals and visitors to explore the Montgomery Canal, fostering a deeper connection with the area and appreciation for the tales that echo along its banks.
