confidence in being on the towpath after Swim Sista Swim project

The UK is facing an unprecedented public health crisis – and poor mental health, childhood obesity and long‑term health conditions are much more prevalent among those experiencing poverty.

To turn the tide on this crisis, as a nation, we need to focus on active lives, bringing people together and increasing our connection with the natural world.

This is where we can make a difference. Our network provides free access to green and blue spaces on the doorstep of over nine million people across England and Wales. We're also building confidence by the water and encouraging water safety with our award-winning Swim Sista Swim project and Water Safety for Little Explorers campaign.

Swim Sista Swim

This 12-month pilot helped members of Nottingham’s black community feel more confident around water, conquering fears and encouraging them to get active on our canals.
