Our impact in Wales

Our impact report highlights the recent work we’ve done in Wales to protect and enhance the canal network, keeping it available and open for everyone.

We're bringing to life stories from the 76 miles of canals in Wales that bring communities together, preserve heritage and create space for nature to thrive.

Place & Prosperity

From celebrating 225 years of the Swansea Canal and protecting the world-famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct to teaching young people new skills, we’re supporting sustainable growth, boating, development and living in Wales.

Nature & biodiversity

Our unique network of hedgerows, waterways and canal banks provides nature with a home like no other. We’re working to restore the Montgomery Canal, clearing invasive species and enhancing the ecosystem to help nature thrive.

Health & wellbeing

We’re helping people take positive steps for their health through our free, open and accessible outdoor spaces. By engaging schools and running a range of activities, we’re connecting people with green and blue spaces.

Resilience & security

Our nation and ageing canal network are facing a climate crisis and are increasingly under immense strain. But our canals are also contributing to climate adaptation with flood protection and decarbonisation.

Placeholder for quotes
I never feel alone on the canal, even if I walk 10 miles away and I don’t see anybody. It’s what I call my ‘safe place’. It just gives me this total freedom and escape from life.
