Gnosall Parish Council

In spring 2016, the Gnosall Parish Council, supported by Best Kept Village group agreed to adopt our length of canal on behalf of the village. We work on the Shropshire Union Canal covering the length from Cowley Tunnel [bridge 33] south of Gnosall to Bridge 36 to the north of the village.

We have regular working parties on most Saturday mornings depending on work to be done and weather. We have about a dozen volunteers with a hard core of five or six. We undertake a range of work from clearing over-growth to repairing water points, paths and steps, repainting and planting wild flowers along the banks.

Every month we have a planning meeting in a local pub - to which everyone turns up!

Why do we do it? We all have an interest in canals and in improving one of our key local village attractions. And we like messing about in boats, on water, getting out in the fresh air and having a bit of a laugh.
