To celebrate our Golden Anniversary, we’re turning back the clock with a lively ‘Living Museum’ weekend celebrating the people, skills and stories that shaped Britain’s waterways. Join us for a fantastic weekend of family-friendly fun across the museum site, including:
- live music and 70s-themed activities
- historic narrowboat lock demonstrations
- trails, tours and hands-on activities
- traditional heritage skills including needlework, paintwork, roping and lacing
- costumed living history characters bringing the docks to life
The anniversary weekend also marks the opening of our brand-new exhibition, Making our Museum, telling the story of how a derelict canal dock became the National Waterways Museum you see today. Discover the boats, buildings, volunteers and visionaries who helped save the site and preserve canal heritage for future generations.
