Ellesmere Yard - Heritage Tours

Starts: 8 March 2026

Ends: 8 March 2026

11am-1pm

Ellesmere yard, Ellesmere, Shropshire, SY12 9AA

This is a walk for general public around Ellesmere Yard.

Step into the heart of Ellesmere Yard and explore its rich industrial heritage on one of our exclusive heritage tours. Starting at 11:00 am, visitors will be welcomed by our volunteer guides before setting off on a guided walk around the Yard. The tour includes key areas such as the historic Dry Dock, Forge, Lock Gate Shop, and Pattern Room. Along the way, you will learn about the Yard’s role in canal maintenance and its links to Thomas Telford’s engineering legacy.

The tour also highlights recent repair works, funded by Historic England and the UK Government, offering a behind the scenes look at how the site is being preserved. Visitors will hear about future plans for Ellesmere Yard, including its development as a centre for heritage skills, creative industries, and community use, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, with thanks to National Lottery players.

The tour lasts around 120 minutes and finishes with a Q&A session over a warm drink and biscuits.
