Grand Canal Raffle terms and conditions

This page (together with the documents referred to on it) sets out the terms and conditions upon which you may enter into our raffle.

1. Key Information

Promoter: Canal & River Trust, a charitable company registered in England and Wales with charity number 1146792 and company number 07807276, whose registered office address is at National Waterways Museum Ellesmere Port, South Pier Road, Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, England, CH65 4FW.

Responsible Person: Hamish Shilliday, of National Waterways Museum Ellesmere Port, South Pier Road, Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, England, CH65 4FW.

External Lottery Manager (ELM): The Woods Group Limited trading as Woods Valldata, a company registered in England and Wales with company number 03665861, whose registered office address is at Lansdowne House Bumpers Way, Bumpers Farm Industrial Estate, Chippenham, Wiltshire SN14 6NG, which is licensed and regulated by the Gambling Commission under account number 3586.

2. Definitions

2.1 The following definitions shall apply in these Lottery Rules:

Charity” means Canal & River Trust, a charitable company registered in England and Wales with charity number 1146792 and company number 07807276, whose details are set out in the Key Information section at the top of this page;

draw” means the process by which Prizes in the Lottery are allocated, as further detailed in these Lottery Rules;

ELM” means the External Lottery Manager, whose details are set out in the Key Information section at the top of this page;

Lottery” means Grand Canal Raffle, Autumn 2025;

Lottery Rules” means these terms and conditions for the Lottery; and

“Participant” means a person who has entered into the Lottery and “you” refers to any such Participant;

Prize” means any prize awarded to the winner of a draw in the Lottery, as detailed in clause 5.2 but subject to clause 5.7.

3. Introduction

3.1 By entering the Lottery, Participants agree to be bound by these Lottery Rules.

3.2 The Charity is promoting this Lottery.

3.3 The Charity is registered with the Gambling Commission to operate the Lottery. The Gambling Commission’s website is available at https://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/. The Charity is licensed and regulated by the Gambling Commission under account number 66846, https://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/public-register/business/detail/66846.

3.4 The Charity is assisted in operating the Lottery by the ELM, and the ELM will manage the operation of the Lottery of behalf of the Charity.

4. How to Enter

4.1 The cost of each entry into a draw is £1.

4.2 Participants can purchase a maximum of 50 tickets in each draw.

4.3 Payment for entry must be made by debit card only for telephone or online entries. Payment for entry may be made by cheque, debit or credit card for postal entries.

4.4 Payment for entry must be received and cleared at least 7 days before the relevant draw. Payment that is received after this time will be treated as a donation to the Charity.

4.5 The Lottery will close on 7/11/2025

4.6 Participants can purchase entry into the Lottery in the following ways:

(a) By post: postal entries may be made to Freepost Plus RUHJ-RCBC-LJKC, Canal & River Trust, Bumpers Way, Bumpers Farm, Chippenham SN14 6NG, which will be added to the draw;

(b) By telephone: telephone entries may be made by calling 0303 040 40 40 with payment being taken over the telephone;

(c) Online: entries may be made at the following address: https://canalrivertrust.raffleentry.org.uk/

(d) Face to face: the Charity may undertake the sale of entries to the draw at certain sites, the details of the locations of which will be confirmed for the relevant draw.

4.7 No detail in an application for entry into the Lottery may be changed in any way once it has been submitted, except for change of address or name of a Participant, whether by reason of marriage or by deed poll or other.

5. The Draw for Prizes

5.1 The draw for Prizes will take place on 14/11/2025

5.2 The Prizes for the Lottery are:

(a) First Prize: £5000;

(b) Second Prize: £750

(c) Third Prize: £500

(d) Plus 25 prizes of £25

5.3 The chances of winning each Prize are 1 in 3,125

5.4 Prizes are drawn at random by the ELM, with the first winner drawn being awarded the first Prize, the second winner being drawn awarded the second Prize, and third winner drawn being awarded third Prize. The draw will continue in a similar fashion until all Prizes are drawn.

5.5 Winners will be notified by telephone where possible (or otherwise in writing) within 7 days of the date of the draw.

5.6 Cash Prizes will be paid within 30 days of the draw by cheque or bank transfer.

5.7 Prizes are subject to availability and the Charity reserves the right to substitute any Prize with another Prize of equal value. There are no alternatives to any cash Prizes, and no interest is payable.

5.8 Any Prize not claimed or banked within 6 months of the draw will be classed as forfeited and will be treated as a donation to the Charity.

6. Eligibility to Enter

6.1 The Lottery is open to residents of England, Wales and Scotland. No entrants are allowed from Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, or the Isle of Man.

6.2 Underage gambling is an offence and legally Participants must be aged 16 or over to enter lotteries. However, applications for this Lottery must be from Participants aged 18 years or over. No person under this age is allowed to participate in this Lottery.

6.3 Upon applying to enter the Lottery, Participants will be required to provide their date of birth and to affirm that they are at least 18. The Charity reserves the right to require proof of identity and age.

6.4 Any person who has entered the Lottery who is subsequently found to be underage will forfeit any Prize and will be excluded from any future draws.

6.5 If a child under 18 years old is found to have participated in the Lottery after the draw has taken place, then a full refund will be made to that person and any Prizes that might otherwise have been due to them will not be paid out. If Prizes have already been paid out, all reasonable attempts will be made to recover them.

6.6 The following are not eligible to play the Lottery:

(a) the Charity’s trustees and members of the Charity’s staff;

(b) the Charity’s volunteers and contractors (including the ELM and the ELM’s staff) who are directly involved in the operation of the Lottery; or

(c) family members of individuals who are directly involved in the operation of the Lottery.

7. Distribution of Proceeds from the Lottery

7.1 The proceeds from the Lottery are applied approximately as follows:

(a) 0% on Prizes;

(b) 0% on expenses related to promoting and running the Lottery; and

(c) 100% applied directly to the purposes of the Charity.

8. Data Protection and Privacy

8.1 The Charity is committed to protecting the privacy of participants. The Charity will use Participants’ personal information for the purposes of administering the Lottery and as described in the Charity’s Privacy Policy at https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/the-publication-scheme/making-a-request-for-information/privacy-notice.

9. Limitation of Liability

9.1 Neither the Charity not the ELM shall be liable for:

(a) Any entries or communications which are damaged, lost, stolen or delayed in the post;

(b) Any late bank payments;

(c) Any failure or inability to award a prize due to any errors or omissions in the data provided or due to any failure by the Participant to update the Charity with any changes to the contact data provided;

(d) Any delays or failures in any software or other systems used by the Charity or the ELM for the administration of the Lottery;

(e) Any refusal by the Charity to accept an entry or the cancellation of an entry;

(f) Any failure to enter an entry into the draw;

(g) Any event beyond the reasonable control of the Charity or the ELM; or

(h) Any loss or damage incurred by a participant in connection with their entry to the Lottery or use of any Prize.

9.2 Nothing in this clause 9 shall exclude liability for death or personal injury.

10. Complaints

10.1 Complaints will be handled in line with the Charity’s Lotteries: Policy Statement.

10.2 Complaints that cannot be resolved by the Charity or the ELM within 8 weeks of the complaint being raised with the Charity or the ELM (as the case may be) may be escalated, provided that the complainant has cooperated with the complaints process in a timely manner, to a third party Alternative Dispute Resolution entity approved by the Gambling Commission (the details of which are available on the Gambling Commission’s website.

11. General

11.1 The Charity may amend these Lottery Rules at any time. The Charity will notify all Participants of any significant changes via this website, or by contacting them directly using the contact details provided on entry to the Lottery.

11.2 The Charity reserves the right without notice or reason to cancel or refuse entry to the Lottery and to modify, cancel, terminate or suspend the Lottery in whole or in part at the Charity’s sole discretion.

11.3 The Charity’s decision on all matters affecting the Lottery is final and legally binding. No correspondence regarding the results of any draw will be entered into.

11.4 The Lottery is subject to the laws of England and Wales.

12. Responsible Gambling and Self-exclusion

12.1 The Lottery is intended to be a fun way to support the Charity’s aims and the vital work it carries out. If you feel that you have a problem with gambling and wish to be self-excluded from the this Lottery and future lotteries, please email [email protected] or telephone 0303 040 40 40 to speak to a member of our team.

12.2 In the event that you wish to be self-excluded from the Lottery:

(a) if you have already entered the Lottery, you will receive a full refund.

(b) you will be opted out from the Charity’s lotteries for a minimum period of 6 months. You will also be opted out of all marketing material during the self-exclusion period to ensure you are not sent any gambling related marketing material during this period.

12.3 If you wish to opt back into play the Lottery in future after the minimum period of self- exclusion, you will need to email [email protected] or telephone 0303 040 40 40 to speak to a member of our team.
