TV presenter and Strictly Come Dancing pro Neil Jones wants you to help protect precious habitats and prevent wildlife from being at risk of permanent harm by pledging your support to the Big Plastic Pick Up.
Fourteen million items of plastic rubbish end up in and around our canals and rivers every year. Plastic litter can be dangerous for both people and animals so we urgently need to keep up the fight against it. These precious habitats, home to many species of wonderful wildlife, are at risk of permanent harm from litter pollution. This is a massive problem but the good news is that together we can help stop plastic rubbish by canals and rivers for good. Take action to end plastic pollution by joining the Canal and River Trust Big Plastic Pickup. Donate £14 and pledge to pick up 14 pieces of plastic rubbish. Also tell a friend to tell a friend. Your pledge to help rid canals and rivers of plastic means you're helping to prevent plastic from becoming part of our nature forever.
“14 million items of plastic rubbish end up in and around our canals and rivers every year and, despite the Canal & River Trust spending over £1 million trying to tackle the problem, this litter still causes devastation for wildlife in our waterways and the oceans beyond.
“It’s a massive problem; particularly in the light of the recent government grant review announcement confirming that Canal & River Trust will see a significant reduction in its funding from 2027 onwards. But the good news is that, together, we can end plastic pollution by joining the Big Plastic Pick Up in three easy steps: Donate £14, pledge to pick up 14 pieces of plastic rubbish and tell a friend to tell a friend. If enough of us accept this challenge, we stand a real chance of getting rid of plastic rubbish by canals and stopping plastic becoming part of our nature”.
"Plastic and litter can seriously harm wildlife and the precious habitats they call home on our nation's canals and rivers. Every one of us can spare a few minutes to stop plastic becoming part of our nature by supporting the Canal & River Trust's Plastics Challenge campaign."
TV presenter Sarah Beeny explains how simple it is to take part in the Big Plastic Pick Up.
