The charity making life better by water

Water Safety Pack

It’s important to us that everyone visiting our waterways knows how to enjoy them safely. This pack will help you learn more about the behaviour of water and the hidden dangers below the surface, and equip you with knowledge to respond to emergency situations.

A group of Canal & River Trust employees

Did you know that around 50% of fatalities happen to people who never intended to go in the water?

Canals and rivers can be dangerous, no matter how strong a swimmer you are. It's very easy to misjudge the effects cold water can have on your body.

Being aware of everyday risks in, on and around water and knowing how to behave could save your life. You never know when you might unexpectedly need this knowledge.

Our Water Safety Pack will help you learn more about how to enjoy our waterways safely.

Activities to download

Some of our activities involve getting together with other people or visiting your local canal or river. Please follow national and local government guidance at all times. Consider saving the activity for a later date if there are lockdown restrictions in your area.

If you're visiting the waterways, please keep your distance from both other people and moored boats. There may be people living aboard who are self-isolating or shielding.
