We have around one million trees growing along our waterways and these provide valuable wildlife habitats and beautiful places for people to relax. However, we have to manage them carefully to make sure they don’t damage our valuable infrastructure.
Our waterways and towpaths are rich in vegetation, which needs careful management to allow people to enjoy the canals and rivers while letting wildlife thrive.
We have managed to recover two of the fallen trees in this section. However, the final tree is too big and is partially blocking the navigation.
Please be advised that Third party contractors will be onsite between bridges 13A and 14, Hole House Fold Bridge on the Peak Forest Canal to carry out tree works at The Folds, Romiley. The Third Party Contractors will be felling several trees due to Ash-die back, using small machinery alongside the towpath.
Please be aware there is a fallen tree partially obstructing navigation with some branches underwater. The tree is passable but we advise to navigate with extreme care.
A fallen tree is blocking the navigation between the aquaduct and Hirst Lock. We have arranged for contractors to remove the tree and will update this notice when we have more information.
A tree has fallen across the navigation upstream of Swale Nab blocking passage. Due to the holiday period, we will be on site in the New Year to remove the tree.
For any waterway customers wishing to access the Moorings at Kilnhurst please be advised there is a fallen tree over the Kilnhurst Top Gate and to be careful of any falling branches. Once the tree has been removed the notice will be updated accordingly.
We have been advised of a fallen tree blocking navigation at Lock 50 Bushes Lock. Contractors have been instructed and we will update this notice once information is available.
The Willow trees above and below the Hampstead Road locks in Camden are being lifted on this date by Trust contractors. A hopper and work boat will be mooring against the lock landing to facilitate the required works.
