A stoppage is required to carry out some repair works. Resin grouting will be put behind the lock walls to fill up any voids and prevent deterioration of the lock structure.
Chris Boardman, Olympic champion and Greater Manchester’s Cycling and Walking Commissioner, has officially opened a project to improve access to the Ashton Canal, making it easier for people to enjoy traffic-free travel into Ashton- under-Lyne and Manchester.

The Hong Kong volunteers have been working on the Green Recovery Challenge Fund project in Manchester, making the canal environment better for people and wildlife.
Wigan-based volunteer, Peter Baxter, has won a prestigious national award for his volunteering with us on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal in Greater Manchester.
People who pass by while I am fishing always assume when they see an older angler that it's been a lifelong thing, for the majority of people do probably start off fishing as youngsters. In my case it's only been a relatively short time.
Please be advised navigation is closed between Lock 84, Dale Street and Lock 92, Castlefield due to an issue with the balance beam to heelpost connection at Lock 85, Piccadilly on the Rochdale Canal which has affected safe operation of the lock. Our teams are aware and are working on a method of repair.
Please be advised navigation is closed between Lock 65 and Lock 81 on the Rochdale Canal due to low water. Our local team are currently managing the water supply to sufficiently replenish the water levels along this stretch and an update will be provided tomorrow morning, Tuesday 9 November.
