It all started on Father’s Day, 2015. We here at the Oldknow project and our gang of enthusiastic volunteers waited to welcome John Sergeant and his television crew to Marple and Mellor and show him our fabulous locations. Fuelled almost entirely by cake and ice-cream and the thought of Samuel Oldknow getting a mention on ITV we soldiered through the inevitable standing around and re-takes and on Friday 22nd April at 8pm ‘our’ episode was shown.
A number of newspapers and TV magazines reviewed the show, here is our favourite which talks about Samuel Oldknow too!
We think John Sergeant did Samuel Oldknow proud, interviewing some young volunteers, reading out Oldknow’s rules for his employees (no swearing), and we enjoyed watching him in Dr John Glithero’s vintage car as he made his way to Oldknow’s Lime Kilns.

Join us on an exciting journey around Samuel Oldknow's stomping ground, Mellor Mill and the Peak Forest Canal in Marple…
Mellor Archaeological Trust and the Canal & River Trust have joined forces to secure £2.3 million of investment, including a grant of £1.5m from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Over the next three years, the Revealing Oldknow’s Legacy team will reveal, conserve and interpret Oldknow’s legacy, through archaeology, learning and volunteering opportunities. We're going to put Marple on the map as a visitor destination.
