In Lincoln, the River Witham joins the Fossdyke Navigation at Brayford Pool in the centre where you can take your little ones (and older ones!) on a boat trip. This large expanse of water was a natural lake and was first excavated by the Romans to improve it for boats.
Today, you can see a host of narrowboats and river craft at the boatyard, marina and boat club. Just east of Brayford Pool, the River Witham navigation passes through the heart of Victorian Lincoln and through the Glory Hole - where an ancient half-building stands right over the canal.
