We are pleased to advise the third party emergency repairs at Lock 3 on the Ashton Canal are now complete, with navigation resuming between Locks 1 & 4, at 12pm today.

The original works to install the new footbridge and ramped access at Lock 3 will now continue, and a towpath closure will remain in place, until the works are completed in March 2025.

Please be advised navigation and towpath remains closed due to third party emergency repairs at Lock 3 on the Ashton Canal.

Third party contractors are progressing with repairs and aiming to have these complete by the end of next week to enable us to open navigation.

A further update on the emergency repairs will be provided on Monday 23 December.

Due to these emergency repairs, the original works to install the new footbridge and ramped access at Lock 3 have been delayed, and a towpath closure will remain in place, until the works are completed in March 2025.

Please be advised navigation is closed due to emergency repairs at Lock 3 on the Ashton Canal due to rebuilding the lock wall.

The third party contractors have now installed a temporary bridge over the lock with anticipation of starting works Monday 2 December. Repairs have been anticipated to be completed after 2 weeks.

These works will be undertaken by Third-Party Contractors who will be operating a crane over the canal therefore for safety we will require the canal to be closed between Lock 1 and Lock 4.

A further update will be provide Friday 13 December.

Pleased be advised navigation remains open whilst we continue working with the Third Party Contractors to finalise the design of the repairs at Lock 3 on the Ashton Canal. Once the designs have been approved, we will need to close the navigation to allow them to carry out the repairs to the lock wall.

The repairs are aiming to begin early next week. A further update will be provided when repairs begin.

Our engineers have been to site today and carried out inspections to the works at Lock 3. They are happy for navigation to be re-opened.

Our team will be removing temporary locks on the flight, enabling passage.

Sorry for any confusion on the notices today.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Lock 3 of the Ashton Canal will remain closed.

Contractors need undertake some emergency remedial works, in correlation with the new bridge crossing under construction.

These works will be undertaken by Third-Party Contractors.

We will provide an additional update Monday 18th November

Our engineers have been working with the Third Party Contractors and we are pleased to advise navigation can resume at Lock 3 on the Ashton Canal.

We will continue working with the Third Party Contractors to finalise the design of the repairs. Once the designs have been approved, we will need to close the navigation in the upcoming weeks to allow them to carry out the repairs the lock wall.

Due to unexpected circumstances, Lock 3 of the Ashton Canal will be closed from Monday 11 November to undertake some emergency repairs, in correlation with the new bridge crossing under construction.

These works will be undertaken by Third-Party Contractors.

Unfortunately, a start date cannot yet be confirmed, however this works will need to be completed with some urgency and will require that the canal is closed with short notice. We are optimistic the works will start week commencing 11 November 2024, and will last no longer than 5 working days.

Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for patience regarding the matter.

Further update will be provided when repairs commence.

Please be advised contractors have applied a crane to over sail the canal to support the ongoing works for the full duration of works being carried out, being until Sunday 22 December.

We politely request that all visitors and boaters continue to remain vigilante and follow the instructions of any marshals present on site and approach the area with care.

Please note that as of Monday 22nd July 2024 until Sunday 18th August 2024 a crane may periodically oversail the canal.

Description

Please be advised third-party contractors will be onsite between Lock 2 and Lock 3 on the Ashton Canal to install a new cycle-bridge over the Ashton Canal, adjacent to Lock 3.

These works will commence from Friday 7 June through until Friday 22 November.

To be able to maintain a safe working environment, the towpath will be closed during these works, a diversion route will be in place.

Whilst this will not impact on canal navigation, we politely request all customers to approach the area with caution and to listen to any advice that may be given by the third-party contractors onsite.
