Updated Information:
The navigation is now open however, the towpath from Bridge 126 to 125 remains closed while we remove the muck away and start sorting the towpath out where Cadent was so there will be no mooring in this area until completed.
We will keep the notice updated with any further information.

Following the delays due to the Cadent gas main work, additional soft areas in the canal bed have been discovered once access was permitted.
Work to fill in the soft areas is underway and the contractor is aiming to have the navigation open by 23 April 2021. The site team are working 7 days a week when they can, to try and improve on this date.
Once this canal bed work is done and the navigation open, the towpath will need to be reinstated along this length of the additional works. The towpath has been reopened between Bridge 122 and 124 but work between Bridge 124 and 126 will take about two weeks so this section of towpath reopening won't be until 7 May 2021.

Unfortunately, Cadent Gas experienced delays in moving the gas main under the towpath along the embankment, and this took longer to complete than first anticipated.
This has had a knock-on effect on our repairs of the washwall and canal bed. Our contractors have worked hard to make up the time lost but will not be able to finish the works by the original planned date. We will do everything we can to complete the repairs on or before 9th April.
Please also be aware, the towpath will remain closed during this period and will be re-opened on 22nd April, once all reinstatement works have been completed.

Please be aware the towpath will now be closed between Bridge 122 (Bolton Church Bridge) and Bridge 127 (Thwaite End Bridge) during this stoppage. This is to enable Cadent Gas to carry out essential gas main repair works at the same time.
